Evaluation of interactive educational software designed for children in early and pre-school education in Croatia

Sažetak

U ovom radu smo vrednovali opravdanost korištenja interaktivnog obrazovnog softvera za usvajanje osnova engleskog i hrvatskog jezika te osnovnih matematičkih vještina u ustanovama predškolskog odgoja i obrazovanja. Uvođenje informacijskokomunikacijske tehnologije (IKT) u ustanove ranog i predškolskog odgoja i obrazovanja temelji se na pažljivom odabiru interaktivnih obrazovnih softvera putem kojih će djeca moći usvajati ciljni sadržaj. Zbog toga je nužno napraviti evaluaciju računalnih softvera koji se planiraju koristiti, u svrhu opravdanja njihove integracije u program predškolskog odgoja i obrazovanja. Program učenja jezika (materinjeg i stranog) te učenja matematike i stjecanja predmatematičkih vještina IKT-a važan su aspekt u rastućem informatiziranom svijetu. Evaluacija softverskih karakteristika (uporabljivost, uključenost multimedija, upravljanje sadržajem, kretanje kroz sadržaj, korisnost sadržaja za dijete i vrednovanje postignuća djeteta) je pokazala zadovoljavajuće rezultate. Možemo zaključiti da korištenje IKT-a omogućuje: dodatak tradicionalnim obrazovnim sadržajima, multidisciplinarni pristup koji zahtijeva širu lepezu vještina, personalizirano učenje i davanje povratnih informacija djetetu koje ima aktivnu ulogu u procesu usvajanja znanja.

Abstract

In this paper we have evaluated the justifi cation behind the use of interactive educational software for learning the basics of English and Croatian languages and basic mathematical skills in pre-school education institutions. Th e introduction of information and communication technology (ICT) in early pre-school education institutions is based on a careful selection of interactive educational software through which children will be able to acquire the target content. It is therefore necessary to make an evaluation of computer software that is intended to be used, in order to justify its integration into the pre-school educational program. Th e program for learning languages (native and foreign) and learning mathematics and acquisition of pre-mathematic ICT skills is an important aspect in an increasingly computerized world. Evaluation of software characteristics (usability, use of multimedia, content management, navigation through the content, usefulness of content for the child and child’s achievements evaluation) has shown satisfactory results. We can conclude that the use of ICT provides: a supplement to traditional educational contents, multidisciplinary approach that requires a broader range of skills, personalized learning and providing feedback to the child who has an active role in the process of acquiring knowledge.
