MODERN PRINTING: HUMAN EVOLUTION, THE NEW INDUSTRY CONVERGENCE AND LIFE IN 2050 Prof. Dr Rajendrakumar Anayath
Abstract Like the philosopher stone, the knowledge was; the knowledge is; and the knowledge will be the only instrument to transform the mankind and lead the humanity onto the illustrious path of righteousness, justice and peace. Though, the alchemy of propagating and transmitting knowledge ‘from Givers to Receivers’ changes on altar of time leaving precedents reflecting on the vast mirage of ages. Stakeholders of academia and industry must synthesize ‘the ways of transmission’ to cater to the present day scenario so as to enable the learners to meet out demands of the progressive and emerging scenario of Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization [LPG]. Ear-bursting alarm of global industries can be heard loud and clear i.e. Perform or Perish. In such situation the synergy of academic process specifically in our field has to imbibe and amalgamate traditional and modern methods seamlessly otherwise sticking to the age old concepts will eventually wipe out the existence of we teachers by challenging his identity and questioning his relevance. This presentation aims to provoke all academic stakeholders to rethink, rebuild and reincarnate their presence in academia so as to help shape the leaders of tomorrow. Hypothesis Archimedes incidentally noticed overflowing of water from the bath tub while bathing and the ‘Principle of Buoyancy’ was revealed to his intellect. He applied the same to find out purity of gold in the king’s crown and thus he could save his life. Later the same theory ‘repurposed’ to develop a ship which eventually changed the history of humankind through navigation and in turn the whole world was discovered. Today every industry is doing the same. I mean "repurposing". All modern systems have a common reliance on digital systems and in particular the internet will continue to drive industrial convergence for many years to come. Indeed, the activities of most industries, at least in part, involve the manipulation and exchange of digital information. Digital technology and its application for teaching practice means the ability of both students and teachers to use every digital artefacts as integral part of their pedagogical content knowledge. Student-teachers need to be aware of what implications this has for ‘teaching-learning’ strategies and the building aspects in lesson presentation. A new approach to teaching practice, calibrated for the twenty first century, requires teachers to be willing to assist the learners in this regard. We have experienced on many occasions, teachers often expressed their lack of confidence in adapting digital technology skills and this can implicitly affect their attitudes towards the use of digital technology in their teaching-learning process. This presentation shall discuss the effect of new industrial convergence and its impact on modern sciences and engineering. The participant shall get an idea on how the world is changing and how it is going to re shape in the next two decades. Key Thrust Areas 1. Innovation and Digital Disruption.
